About the role
The payments core is the heart of the company: it authorises, routes, retries and settles every transaction, and it keeps a ledger that must reconcile to the cent.
You'll work on the services that move money, where correctness and resilience matter more than anything, and where a good decision compounds for years.
Responsibilities
- Design and build services that authorise, route and settle payments at scale.
- Own data models for money — idempotency, reconciliation and audit trails included.
- Harden the system against partial failure: timeouts, retries, exactly-once semantics.
- Investigate production incidents and turn each one into a permanent fix.
Requirements
- 5+ years building back-end systems in a typed language, with strong data-modelling skills.
- Experience with distributed systems and the failure modes of networked money movement.
- A bias for correctness: you reach for invariants, tests and monitoring by instinct.
- Clear written communication — design decisions live in docs the whole team reads.
Nice to have
- Direct experience with card networks, acquiring, or banking rails (SEPA, faster payments).
- Experience running services you also designed.
